The Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) at Old Westbury is designed to increase the number of economically disadvantaged students who are pursuing professional licensure and careers in mathematics, science, technology, and health-related fields.
What We Do
We empower Long Island students (grade 7–12) to discover their potential in science and tech.

Our program proudly hosts students from the Westbury, Freeport, Uniondale, East Rockaway and Lawrence school districts, as well as other exceptional regional schools.
We provide cost-free* pre-college educational programming to prepare our kids to succeed beyond high school.

Our Program
STEP at Old Westbury is made possible in large part by the Science and Technology Entry Program grant from the NY State Department of Education.
About STEP
Established in 1986, The Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) at Old Westbury is designed to increase the number of economically disadvantaged students who are pursuing professional licensure and careers in mathematics, science, technology, and health-related fields.
Activities and Opportunities
Our program consists of both academic year and summer session components including:
Core subject instruction and enrichment
Supervised research training by a faculty member specialized in their field
College admissions prep
Standardized test preparation: SAT and Regents
Scholarship opportunities
Career awareness and development activities & workshops
College credit courses (please inquire about availability)

Eligibility Requirements
In accordance with State Education Department guidelines, student eligibility determinations are based on indicators of economic disadvantage in alignment with applicable state and federal guidelines.

Enrollment
Our program is continually rolling admissions unless specified.
2025 Summer Program: Our 2025 Summer Program runs from July 7 to August 1, with multiple session options and varying class lengths depending on the course. Thank you to all of our students and families for making this summer a successful one!
2025 Fall Program: Fall schedules, programs, and class dates will be available mid- late August. We thank you for your patience and cooperation while we prepare for the semester’s classes. Students who register for the Summer Program will be automatically enrolled in the 2025–2026 Academic Year Program. They simply need to select their classes.
The Academic Year begins July 1, 2025, and continues through June 30, 2026, with various classes held on select Saturdays.
